Sønderborg Municipality manages an international Kindergarten in the local municipal Kindergarten Engelshøj. The international department of Kindergarten Engelshøj was founded in 2016 as a joint private-public partnership with Sønderborg International School.
Since September 2024, the international Kindergarten is managed by the Municipality. Sønderborg International School is, however, happy to guide you in the process of enrollment.

The SIS Kindergarten is for children from a variety of backgrounds. Currently we have children registered at the kindergarten from both the Danish community and wider international community.
Some children speak English fluently while others join us without any English language skills. Students are supported to develop their language skills amongst other skills regardless of their age or entry level abilities. All children in the Kindergarten receive a foundation in both literacy and numeracy skills.
Play is at the heart of the child’s development in our kindergarten. Children are encouraged and given time to interact socially through play. It is this play that regularly forges wonderful friendships with children who are ‘not just like them’ and introduces our children to the wider world and the opportunities and friendships this offers.
